Silverringen - Jönshyttan

In Jönshyttan, the silver ore extracted from Östra Silvbergs mines was smelted. The activity here was lively already at the end of the 1400s. Today, there are traces at the site of the iron processing that was transitioned to in the 1600s, in the form of smaller slag heaps and foundation stones from buildings.

The remains found indicate that there may have been five smelting huts along the river, where access to forests and natural waterfalls was abundant. Until 1515, the wealthy silver bailiff Stig Hansson lived at Jönshyttan in a large timber house, the foundation stones of which still remain. In the summer, there's a rest area by the river with tables for a picnic; stop and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of forest and water. Walk the medieval route along Jönshytteån, where silver was melted in the smelting huts. Cross the small wooden bridge and follow the medieval road to the right to reach a hill with a beautiful view of Lake Ljustern. For cyclists, the recommended Ljustern loop is an 11 km cycling tour in the area.
