Silverringen is a cultural route in southern Dalarna that runs through the Silvberg and Säter mining areas, connecting notable mining environments. Travel through time and space and follow the path of iron and silver from the mine to the smelting house and hammer forge.
Along the road, there are beautiful rest areas by the many lakes, so feel free to pack a picnic basket. Information signs at the destinations tell about the history of the site. All texts are translated into English and German.
Östra Silvberg: Here you will find one of Sweden's oldest mines and also the Abandoned Cemetery where the medieval St. Nikolai chapel once stood.
Jönshyttan: Here, the silver ore mined at Östra Silvberg's mines was smelted.
Grängshammar: One of Dalarna's most beautiful industrial environments with Olof Forsgren's elegant buildings constructed in shimmering slag flakes. Nearby is also the octagonal Silvberg Church.
Ulfshyttan: Here a smelter was established in the 17th century, and the production of pig iron continued, with only shorter interruptions, until May 1939 when the last blast occurred.
Bispbergs mine: At this mine, with roots in the Middle Ages, the magnificent Vasalaven from 1889 towers. Here you can see one of Sweden's best-preserved iron mine environments.
