The Mine Side 6 - Slagghögarna

You have now reached stop 6 of "The Mine Side" children's tour. Look at the large slag heaps that lie there and loom over you. They are called "slaggvarp" and are what remains after extracting copper ore. They're like piles of waste, but they have their own beauty. You can try running up one of the paths – from up there, you can see almost all of Falun.

There are some fascinating concrete ruins that probably ended up here during World War II. But promise me one thing, don't take any slag stones home with you. They should remain here forever, so that your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren can also see how hard people worked in the past to remove the slag. The slag stones belong to the Falun World Heritage Site. Slaggvarpen has been a delightful playground for children throughout the ages, both in summer and winter. Kids have chased each other and built forts here. In winter, it's perfect for sledding. This city tour is funded by Tillväxtverket.
