Husby parish is one of the oldest farming districts in Dalarna. In the Early Middle Ages it was an administrative centre for southern Dalarna, governed from the two royal estates of Husby and Näs.
The people of Husby learned how to produce iron at an early stage, and tradition has it that this was the oldest place where ore was mined in Sweden, going back to prehistoric times. Smedby, one of the oldest places in Dalarna, was for a long time the centre in Husby parish, with a church, courthouse, inn, community centre and bank. Husby church acquired its present appearance in 1779–82, when the earlier medieval church was extended. In the church there are several artefacts from the fifteenth century, an unusually fine collection of old church textiles and a unique church organ from 1783.
