Welcome to stop 6 of the Children's Tour, "The Fine Side."
This house is also made of slag stone, but the stones are covered with a layer of yellow-brown paint. It is the largest slag house in all of Falun!
The house is called Kronobränneriet and was built because there was a need for a place to produce spirits. Yes, you heard that right. In the past, people used to drink a lot of homemade spirits.
To regulate this, the king (Gustav III) decided that all spirits should be produced by the state and no one else. So, many Kronobränneri (state distilleries) were built here and there in Sweden. Falun was the first.
Later on, the house became a storage facility for various things - oats, rye, and other grains. At one point, it served as an archive, and Dalarna Museum used it as a storage space to accommodate all their belongings.
This city tour is funded by Tillväxtverket.
