The Fine Side 3 - Ölandsparken

Welcome to stop 3 of the Children's Tour, "The Mine Side." Now we're walking through a park called Ölandsparken. Here, flowers and trees grow, and there are exciting lilac bushes to climb on or sneak around. And all the while, Falu River flows beside us like a water buddy. But don't get too close, it's easy to fall in, and we definitely don't want that.

In the past, this area was an island. It was called Ölandet, and it was moist and water-filled. Carl Linnaeus visited Falun several times. He became world-famous because he named all our wildflowers. When he wasn't traveling around naming plants, he fell in love with Sara Elisabeth, who lived on Svedens Farm halfway to Sundborn. You should visit both places someday; they are both located within the World Heritage Site of Falun. The long brick building was constructed when Falun got electricity. It was a special house with machines that could provide electricity for 800 lamps. That was a lot back then! Two people worked here—one who operated the machines and another who tended to the fires.
