Welcome to stop 2 of the Children's Tour, "The Fine Side."
Do you see over there in the water, on the other side of the river? That's Herdins Brygga (Herdin's Pier).
It's an old rinsing pier. The pier is the only thing left from Herdin's Dyeing Yard, which used to be there. The yard was rebuilt after the two major fires in Falun in 1761. None of the houses closest to the river remain today.
At the Dyeing Yard, people who could afford it would bring their clothes to be washed or dyed. Even the world-renowned artist Anders Zorn was one of the customers.
When Herdin's moved to new premises in Hosjö in 1971, Falun Municipality bought the pier for one crown and promised to take care of it forever.
Gullviva: "One crown. That was very cheap".
This city tour is funded by Tillväxtverket.
