The Fine Side 1 - Faluån och Spruthuset

You have now arrived at stop 1 of the Children's tour, "The Fine Side." Falu River will be the constant company us for a good part of this journey. Falun could never have survived without the river's water, and neither could the Mine. The river divides Falun into two parts: the dirty and gritty one and the delightful and fine one.

When the Mine was at its peak, Falu River was also much larger and wider. Imagine, you could row all the way up to the Main Square! Do you see the house with the tower on the other side of the river? That's the Fire Station. A perfect spot for the firefighters. After all, the water was right there! When there was a fire in the city, they would pump water directly from the river using long hoses. If the hoses couldn't reach the fire, women would form long lines and pass buckets of water between them. It was a bit complicated but effective. Today, there's a lovely restaurant in that spot, and during the summer, many people sit on the pier quenching their thirst instead of extinguishing fires. "We'll get there once we complete our tour.
